A Last-Minute Ride That Turned Into One of Our Best Trips

Updated: 3 days ago

What started as an adhoc idea on a quiet day in Cary turned into one of our most memorable rides of the year. Just me and Kav, two helmets, one Ultra Limited, and—after a quick shopping detour—a brand-new bag big enough to handle her luggage. I sacrificed some space, of course… but that’s marriage on two wheels.

We pointed the bike toward Boone, letting the miles roll under us as North Carolina opened up into perfect fall colors—reds, golds, and oranges lining every curve. The Blue Ridge always knows how to show off in October.

Boone welcomed us the way it always does: warm, relaxed, and buzzing with mountain-town energy. We wandered around App State, imagining our daughter walking these same paths one day, picturing her future against that backdrop of college-life excitement and mountain calm.

Downtown Boone was its usual charming self—small shops, friendly faces, and that feeling that time slows down just a little here. The photos of you both smiling on the sidewalks say everything: simple moments, yet somehow unforgettable.

From there we rode up into the BRP, where the air got cooler and the views got even better. The rock tunnels, the winding roads, and the canopy of colors made it feel like the whole mountain was celebrating fall with us. And of course, we had to visit Grandfather Mountain, our favorite tradition whenever we’re in that part of the state.

One evening took us to Blowing Rock, the kind of town that feels straight out of a postcard. Dinner was cozy and perfect—and that Kilwins ice cream? Worth every calorie and then some.

Looking back at the album, it’s clear:This wasn’t just a ride.It was a reminder of why these spontaneous road trips matter—no planning, no schedule, just the two of you, sharing miles, views, laughs, and moments you’ll talk about for years.

A simple weekend ride turned into a beautiful story… the kind that only happens when you fire up the bike and just go.
